Promoting Your Etsy Store

For any of you out there with your own online store, you would know just how hard it can be to promote your own work.

Like many people will tell you out in the real world, 'networking' is an important part of getting a job. It's the same online. If you are looking for customers, you can't ignore the importance of networking. Get your name out there by posting on online forums, chat rooms and social networks. Once you start communicating with others, you will most likely come across people who will be more than happy to mention your online store to others.

Grab a pen and paper, and make a checklist - have you created accounts on the following social network sites?

Creating a Facebook group page is an excellent way to promote your store. Any friends you currently have added on Facebook should be invited to join your group. It also goes without saying that Facebook has an enormous amount of members, and that is a big plus!

Twitter is great for promoting individual items. Etsy provides Twitter updates for each item you list, making it easy to post new updates.

And last but not least, Blogger offers a more in-depth experience to customers who feel that they need a more personal approach to your online store. Blogger allows you to express your own ideas about your store and products that do not necessary come across in the description of a listing.

While you're at it, make sure you check out the 'Community' section of Etsy. If you regularly post on the Etsy forums and join in the Chats, you will start to meet regular users of Etsy who are happy to promote your work for you. The chat room is exceptionally great at getting your items out there, as it offers an item showcase, allowing other members easily to promote your items by posting an image of your listing in live chat.

If most of your time is taken up by actually making items for sale, it might be a good idea to step aside from self-promotion and get someone else to do all the hard work for you instead!

There are numerous people out there offering their promotional services, and personal experience certainly counts when it comes to choosing the best person for the job. After all, you have put in your own time and money into your shop, and you need to spend your money wisely.

I must admit, I am always a little skeptical when it comes to paid promotions, but I recently met Fay from SensualPleasures, over at bonanza.com, who has turned my thinking around. She is offering a very generous promotional package to individuals. If you have an online store (over at Etsy.com or bonanza.com etc.) Fay is offering to promote your shop and individual items for a period of seven days for a small fee. She has a large following on Twitter.com, and endless positive feedback from previous customers. To check out Fay's promotional listing, click here. I am happy to promote Fay's work, as she has personally promoted my products with great results!

Whatever route you decide to take when promoting your online store, it is important to provide your customers with great products and communication. This will ensure that each customer comes back to your store time and time again.
